On September 6, 1886, St. Peter School opened its doors. The Sisters of Mercy staffed the school when it opened. Over the years, dedicated lay teachers were added to the faculty. Today the school is staffed completely by lay teachers. A preschool was added in 1982 for three and four year old children. In September of 2006 Saint Peter and Sacred Heart were merged into St. Peter Sacred Heart School. Children from Pre-K through Grade 4 were housed at Sacred Heart Campus and Grades 5-8 were housed at St. Peter Campus. Infants and toddlers were welcomed into St. Peter Sacred Heart School at the Sacred Heart Campus and Grade 4 moved to the St. Peter School Campus at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year. The Day Care Center was known as “Little Lambs Early Learning Center" of Sacred Heart School. The Sacred Heart Campus closed in June 2013. Since the opening of the 2013-2014 school year, St. Peter School has served children in Grades Pre-K through Grade 8.
